Iron Mike Tyson believes he has the blueprint to defeat the Klitschko’s

Former heavyweight champion Iron Mike Tyson believes that he has the blueprint needed to defeat the Klitschko brothers. Between the two of them (Super) WBA/ IBF/WBO/IBO and The Ring heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (57-3-50 KO’s) and his brother World Boxing Council (WBC) heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko (44-2, 40 KO’s) have dominated the heavyweight division for the better part of a decade.

Wladimir has effectively used his 6’6” height and overall size to dominate his normally shorter opponents. “Dr. Steelhammer” uses a piston like left jab from the outside to gradually break down his opponents.

Chisora to have a lawyer represent him at his hearing before the BBBofC

Heavyweight Dereck Chisora will reportedly have Jonathan Crystal, a well known sport media and entertainment lawyer, represent his case in his March 14th hearing before the British Boxing Board of Control in Cardiff, according to The Telegraph.

Chisora, 28, has three issues of misconduct that his lawyer will have to speak on to the BBBofC: 1. Slapping Vitali Klitschko at the weigh-in. 2. Spitting water in the face of Vitali’s brother Wladimir Klitschko in the ring on the night of the fight. 3. Chisora’s involvement with the after fight brawl with David Haye at the post-fight press conference.

Why the amazement over “The Brawl”?

For almost a week the lead story in professional boxing has been “The Brawl” which occurred after last Saturday nights fight between challenger Dereck Chisora (15-3, 9 KO’s) and World Boxing Council (WBC) heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko (44-2, 40 KO’s). The actual fight was interesting, but was only competitive due to the injury Vitali suffered to his left shoulder in the 3rd round.

The injury prevented “Dr. Ironfist” from using his signature punch, his punishing left jab. Vitali also uses his left hand as a rangefinder when he holds it down at his side and either throws his left jab, or hooks off the jab. Klitschko’s jab and left hook were none existent from the 3rd round h on as EPIX commentators Dan Rafael and Freddie Roach pointed out.

Pacquiao wants Mayweather in November

WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao says he wants to face unbeaten Floyd Mayweather Jr. in November before he retires – or gets beaten – from the sport. However, Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum is doubtful that a fight between his money fighter Pacquiao and Mayweather can be negotiated.

Pacquiao said this about Mayweather as quoted by USAtoday.com “I’m hoping for a November fight [against Mayweather]…I consider this fight [against Timothy Bradley] as one of my toughest fights.”

Ricky Burns handed WBO lightweight title after Juan Manuel Marquez stripped of title

Ricky Burns (33-2, 9 KO’s) became the second of the UK world champions today when the World Boxing Organization (WBO) declared him to be the new full WBO lightweight champion after they stripped Juan Manuel Marquez of the title due to him moving up in weight.

It’s a pretty sad way to win a title if you ask me. Burns won a questionable decision in his last fight against Michael Katsidis and before that, Burns had taken three soft fights at super featherweight while holding down the WBO title.

Pacquiao tops Mayweather in PPV buys for last three fights

World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao (54-3-2, 38 KO’s) has topped WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. (42-0, 26 KO’s) in Pay Per View (PPV) buys for his last three fights. In addition Pacquiao’s live gate attendance far exceeds Mayweather during the same time span.

Manny’s last fight in November against Juan Manuel Marquez drew 1.41 million PPV buys, while Floyd’s fight last September against Victor Ortiz drew 1.25 PPV buys. Floyd’s fight with Marquez in 2009 drew 1 million PPV buys.

Arum reports no progress in Mayweather-Pacquiao negotiations; now looking to November for mega fight

Bob Arum doesn’t have any positive news for a mega fight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. and is now looking for November to try and set the fight up in a temporary arena like the one Arum has been talking about having built on the Las Vegas strip.

Arum told the Manila Standard writer Nick Giongco “There’s been no movement on Mayweather’s side. As long as they win their next fights, Mayweather on May 5th and Manny on June 9th, they can absolutely fight in November. A fight that big deserves a bigger venue.”

Mosley offered Khan fight at a 145 pound catchweight; also offered Saul Alvarez bout

40-year-old Shane Mosley (46-7-1, 39 KO’s) was approached by Golden Boy Promotions for a fight between him and former IBF/WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (26-2, 18 KO’s) but at a catchweight of 145 pounds, according to Dan Rafael of ESPN.

In addition to the Khan fight, Mosley was also offered a bout against WBC light middleweight champion Saul Alvarez (39-0-1, 29 KO’s). The Khan fight was offered after the Alvarez fight, which suggests that Golden Boy is more interested in using Mosley for Khan right now if Khan can’t get a rematch with Lamont Peterson in May.

Klitschko-Mormeck: This won’t be much of a fight but it could be better than Haye bout

Heavyweight challenger Jean Marc Mormeck won’t have to do all that much to look better than IBF/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko’s last opponent David Haye. Wladimir beat a very timid looking Haye last July in a one-sided 12 round decision in Germany.

Wladimir could have selected a top contender for his next fight on March 3rd, but instead found the 39-year-old Mormeck occupying the middle of the rankings at #9 IBF, #9 WBO, #10 WBA.

Pacquiao still likely to fight Cotto next, but not in Arum’s 40,000 seat arena

With Floyd Mayweather Jr. asking for the lion’s share of the revenue for a fight against Manny Pacquiao, it looks like the mega fight between them is off for now at least until possibly November.

Pacquiao hasn’t officially given up on the negotiations for that fight but it’s expected that his promoter Bob Arum will pull the plug by Friday and go with their backup plan, which is expected to be Miguel Cotto.
